Privacy and your data

Before anything else

OCN Magazine asks for very little from readers and keeps it for a set time. The magazine is the one accountable for it. If something here does not add up, write to contact@ocnmagazine.com and ask.

Messages through our contact form

You will find the contact form on the Contact us page. It asks for three things, what to call you, where to reply and what you want to say. In practice that means a name, an email address and the message itself.

Readers use it to ask how to compare three bids, what a fair deposit looks like or when a change order makes sense. We keep each message, with the name and address on it, for 12 months so we can reply and pick up the thread if you write back. Once the 12 months pass, it is deleted.

Technical logs

The hosting servers log visits automatically, much as a sign in sheet at a job site records who came through the gate. A log entry can show an IP address, which browser was used, what page loaded and at what hour. We rely on those entries to run the site and protect it from attacks, not to study readers.

Cookies

OCN Magazine places no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. You were not asked to accept any, because there are none of that kind to accept.

What we will not do with it

OCN Magazine does not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising purposes either, and no advertiser receives a list of readers.

Privacy rights in your state

A homeowner in California has rights under that state's privacy law, and residents of a growing number of other states have similar rights under their own privacy laws. Rather than sort readers by state, OCN Magazine honors the following requests from anyone.

First, access. Ask what we hold about you, and we send it. Second, correction, if an email address or other detail is wrong. Third, deletion, which clears your messages before the 12 months are up. Fourth, you can opt out, which tells us never to sell your details or share them. We already do neither, but your opt out still goes on record.

To make a request, email contact@ocnmagazine.com or send it through the contact form, and name the right you want to use. We may ask you to confirm the request comes from you. You will not be treated any differently for asking.

Children

Renovation budgets, permits and contractor bids are subjects for adults. OCN Magazine is not designed for children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone that young. That is the standard COPPA sets for websites.

Think your child has sent us a message? Email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this page

When we change how we handle personal information, this notice changes with it. The updated version is posted here, dated, in place of the previous one. Last updated November 5, 2026.
